Anthony Joshua blamed his lifestyle as the culprit for his inconsistency appearance in the ring. The 34-year-old former world champion suffered three title defeats in four years.
The British boxer has only won twice since the end of 2018, having previously been unbeaten in 22 professional matches.
“My life is complicated,” Joshua told DAZN. “Boxing becomes a bit complicated for me.
“But everyone is just trying to make the best use of this time when I box and they do their job well.
“But it affects my ring activity. So I’ve always been trying to get rid of those items. It’s a challenge.”
After losing to Oleksandr Usyk for the second time in September 2021, it looks like Joshua’s career at the top of boxing can end.
There was talk of a whole UK blockbuster fight against Tyson Fury but it failed. Then, each side blames each other.
“I’m just trying to finish it this year so next year I can focus, I’m not a champion and it’s very painful.”
“So I’m in the gym rebuilding and restructuring everything I have to do inside and outside the ring.
“There are a lot of things that happen outside the ring in my life that make my ring life complicated.
“So I just need to simplify a lot of things outside the ring and then I can pay full attention in the ring. And once I finish it, next year I will be ready.”
A failure to approve a fight with Fury means there will be no opponents on Joshua’s schedule going forward.
Asked when he would come back, he said: “I don’t know.
“I was supposed to be in the ring this year, I’ll be in the ring next year. I’ll be in the ring while in the ring.”
