The entire golf world was devastated in 2021 when Tiger Woods met with an unfortunate accident. And then just weeks ago, when he announced his return to golf, they rejoiced. The 15-time major winner returned to the sport on the 10th of this month, where he played in the exhibition series, ‘The Match’. There, besides the four stars who were participating, was also another familiar face on the course, Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay.
Mackay had served as a caddie for Phil Mickelson for 25 years until 2017 when they parted ways. Bones then joined forces with PGA Tour star Justin Thomas, at the end of 2021 and has been caddying for him ever since.

Bones was caddying for the two golf buddies at The Match. While driving Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth around the course, he got to witness Tiger Woods playing up close. Then again, at the PNC Championship, Mackay got to watch Woods play the sport he loved. The caddie was enthralled with what he saw.

According to Mike Hall of Golf Monthly, Bones commented on Woods playing in the Ryder Cup next year shortly after the PNC Championship. The caddie spoke in the interview, commenting on both Charlie and Tiger’s games. He said, “I was that much or more impressed with Tiger in terms of where he is. I was out there thinking, “Oh my gosh, it’s a Ryder Cup year.’”

While many suggested that Woods’ good days were already in the past, Mackay disagreed. He stated, “Let’s not put anything past the guy… I’m excited because I think he’s going to come out there and make plenty more noise.” Bone has watched Woods play for a while now and is confident that the legend has more to give to the sport.

Woods has been playing professional golf since 1996, and the golf legend has since competed in eight Ryder Cups. The number is fairly low considering that the event is held every 2 years, but even more astonishing is Woods’ wins at the event. The 82-time PGA Tour victor has only one win in the international cup, which came in 1999.
