Rafael Nadal and touring partner Casper Ruud passed the time while they awaited a flight in their Latin America tour by playing football. The Spaniard, who finished the season as world number two, got into the World Cup spirit with Ruud and showed some football skills by playing keepie uppie with their entourage.
Nadal has had a season of highs and lows winning two Grand Slam titles at the Australian and French Open, but also having to withdraw from Wimbledon with an abdomen tear. As part of their exhibition tour Nadal and Rudd visited Iguazu Falls on the border between Argentina and Brazil.
The pair then took part in an exhibition match at Parque Roca in Buenos Aires on Wednesday evening. On Friday the tour moved on to Chile where Nadal delighted fans by beating Alejandro Talibo at the Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo.
Nadal posted a video of the keepie uppie practice. The Spaniard posted: “Pre-check-in at the airport in Belo Horizonte… football World Cup mood. Thank you Brazil for everything!”
The tennis stars have delighted fans in Brazil who commented on the video with their thank you messages to the pair. One fan said: “What an experience watching yesterday’s game and see you and Ruud playing so close of us! Thanks, Rafa!”
The airport also had a message for the stars who they had caught out with their arrival. A message from the airport’s Instagram account said: “There was even a speck in our eyes. What a thrill to be on stage at this show! In the next one, let us know that we will prepare a reception at the height of what you deserve!”
